Churchill County residents ages six months to age 64 are invited to get free flu shots, with the option to test for COVID, on Oct. 6 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the Churchill County Fairgrounds.
Health officials strongly recommend getting a flu shot this year amid the COVID pandemic. According to the Center for Disease Control: ”Getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever during 2020-2021 to protect yourself and the people around you from flu, and to help reduce the strain on healthcare systems responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The CDC also recommends that those age 65 and up receive the high-dose flu vaccine which contains four times the amount of antigen, and allows a strong immune response following vaccination. Unfortunately, this high-dose flu vaccine will not be available at the Oct. 6 event at the fairgrounds.
This free event is sponsored by Churchill County, the City of Fallon and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health.
Making an appointment for the flu shot/COVID test is advised, but not required. Call (775)423-6695, option 2 to schedule your time.
