Churchill County Social services will be participating in the statewide point in time homeless county on Jan. 30.
The purpose of this count is to better understand the needs of the local homeless population and that of the state as a whole.
Social Services staff is asking that anyone who is experiencing a homeless situation, are at risk of being homeless or are participating in transitional housing program drop by the Social Services office on Jan. 30 between 1 and 4 p.m. for a short survey. Those who take the survey will receive a Safeway gift card and a warm blanket for their time.
According to Social Services Director Shannon Ernst, Churchill County has participated in the point in time survey since 2003 with the goal of better understanding the local homeless population, identifying their specific needs and developing programming to address those needs.
“We know that the homeless population moves based on the weather and availability of programming and we want to understand those who fall on hard times or who choose to be homeless. The more people who participate helps us understand those needs,” said Ernst.
The Social Services Office is located in the county annex building, 485 West B. Street, Suite 105 in Fallon. For more information call (775)423-6695 ext. 3.
