Lifeguard Training

This American Red Cross course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies and to provide care for injuries and sudden illness until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel arrive and take over. Pre-requisites are held two weeks prior to the start of the course and completing the online learning is required prior to the start of the first class: Participants must be 15 years old and pass the pre-course of: 

  1. 300-yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke,
  2. Swim 20 yards, surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, swim 20 yards back to starting point and exit the water, 
  3. Tread water with hands out of the water for 2 minutes. 

Certification includes Lifeguard Training/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.


Summer Junior Lifeguard Training & Internship

This American Red Cross Training course introduces the field of aquatics to junior participants who are interested in becoming a lifeguarding professional in the future. This training provides the knowledge and skills to assist and help those in need during emergencies. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be offered the choice of interning with Churchill County Aquatic Center, which includes the following: job shadowing and assisting lifeguards with duties, assisting lifeguards with swim lessons, taking part in the Parks & Recreation Challenge Course, participating in staff meetings/in-services, and last but not least, getting free admission to the pool during the course of the internship. Participants must be between the ages of 10 -14 years of age in order to qualify to take the course.

Certification includes: Adult & Pediatric First-Aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
