On-Site Programs

This facility will implement a number of programs designed to provide support for the juvenile and family in an attempt to empower them to become more socially adept and to stabilize and support healthy social development. The programs include:

  • Focused Intervention Training: FIT is a 45-day residential program that is based on both Cognitive Behavior and Behavior Modification interventions. The goal of the program is to assist our residents to make positive changes in their thinking and behavior. Prospective residents and their parents/guardians must be court-ordered into the program.
  • Leisure time activities: For those youth who earn it, leisure time activities such as games, guest speakers, appropriate movies and reading materials are provided. All movies, books and magazines brought into the facility will be approved by the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer.
  • Early Intervention: A class to give students a basic knowledge of how drugs and alcohol affect the brain and body; the short and long term effects; and the laws regarding illegal drug possession and use and laws regarding underage alcohol use.
  • Girls' Circle: This is a gender-specific program designed for girls to raise self-esteem and work with gender-specific issues. Girls' Circle is recognized as a promising approach in the Model Programs Guide of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Outcomes showed significant increases in self-efficacy, body image, and social connection.
  • Council for Boys: The council is a strengths-based group approach to promote boys' and young men's safe, strong, and healthy passage through pre-teen and adolescent years. The council meets a core developmental need in boys for strong, positive relationships.
  • Parent Project-Changing Destructive Adolescent Behaviors: An award-winning program with a 28-year record of success that offers concrete, no-nonsense answers for even the most difficult parents questions and high risk adolescent behaviors. Program addresses truancy, drugs, media, runaways, early teen sex, violence, and gangs by employing behavioral modification, cooperative learning norms, which is an effective teaching techniques for adults, activity-based instruction and integrated support groups.
  • Anger Management: The program teaches anger management skills such as the STAR (stop, think, act, reflect) method.
  • Individual mental health counseling: This treatment will be provided by contracted service providers that will work with the youth individually and in groups.
  • Individual drug and alcohol counseling: Youth who are already engaged in drug and alcohol counseling will be able to continue those services while in detention with a contracted drug and alcohol counselor.
  • D.R.I.V.E.: A program to educate youth on the laws and responsibilities of having a driver's license. Course outline includes, Defensive vs. offensive driving, Rules of the Road, Nevada Traffic Laws, Statistics, Accidents, Seat Belts, DUI/Impaired/Drowsy/Distracted driving, Contact with Police. Youth are mandated to attend this class after receiving a traffic citation and having appeared in Court.
