Instructions for Filing a Certificate of Business Fictitious Firm Name

Every person, corporation, firm, and general partnership conducting, carrying on, or transacting business in the State of Nevada under an assumed or fictitious name or designation, must file with the county clerk of each county in which the business is being carried on, or is intended to be carried on, a Certificate of Business: Fictitious Firm Name (PDF) in accordance with Chapter 602 of the Nevada Revised Statutes.

The certificate must contain the following information:

  • Name of the business
  • Physical address of the business
  • Type of business to be conducted
  • Name(s) of the corporation or person(s) conducting the business
  • Address(es) of the corporation or person(s) conducting the business

The certificate must be signed by an officer of the corporation or by each person interested in, or conducting or carrying on, such business. Signatures must be acknowledged before an officer authorized to do so (notary public or deputy clerk). A certificate is good for five years as of the date filed.

Instructions for Terminating a Certificate of Business Fictitious Firm Name

Although a person or corporation is not required to file a Termination of Fictitious Firm Name (PDF), it is available if they wish to do so.

The termination certificate must contain the following information:

  • Related file number as listed on original certificate
  • Name of the business as listed on original certificate
  • Physical address of the business as listed on original certificate
  • Name(s) of the corporation or person(s) as listed on original certificate
  • Address(es) of the corporation or person(s) as listed on original conducting the business

The termination certificate must be signed by all parties that signed the original document. Signatures must be acknowledged before an officer authorized to do so such as a notary public or deputy clerk.

Fees

Upon filing either certificate with the county clerk, a filing fee of $25 is required plus two copies (included in fee). If copies are needed, (when provided by the clerk) an additional $1 per page is required as per NRS 19.018. The original document is retained by the County Clerk.
