The Public Defender's Office serves to defend indigent individuals and protected persons in the community charged with criminal offenses whether those persons are adults or juveniles.
It was brought under the auspices of Churchill County in 2020 after decades of being a contracted service to reduce the rising costs of the contracting model and provide for more cost efficiencies combined with a push across the state for counties to adopt employee-based public defender offices to ensure a greater level of accessibility and equitability of representation for indigents.
The offices are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
