This American Red Cross course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies and to provide care for injuries and sudden illness until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel arrive and take over. Pre-requisites are held two weeks prior to the start of the course and completing the online learning is required prior to the start of the first class: Participants must be 15 years old and pass the pre-course of:
300-yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke,
Swim 20 yards, surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, swim 20 yards back to starting point and exit the water,
Tread water with hands out of the water for 2 minutes.
Certification includes Lifeguard Training/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
